Today I want to share with you my recipe on these super yummy hot dogs that made with lots of love and without a bun. Sometimes I make these when i have my ‘refill’ days (If you want to learn more about my refill days, read here).
A danish hot dog is a little different than an american hotdog. I guess it depends where you come from in USA, but the hot dog my husband grew up with is just a sausage in a bun with ketchup. In Denmark, where i come from a traditional hot dog has a bun with sausage, ketchup, ‘remoulade’, mustard, raw white onions, fried onions and pickles. Yep, a hot dog with everything is what we call it.
My kind of hot dog looks and taste a little different than the traditional one. It’s without a bun and instead i use romain lettuce. I use high quality organic chicken sausages without any kind of antibiotics or other scary stuff and fry my own onions and make a delicious onion marmelade and then use blueberries and chopped cashews as toppings.
NOTE: All ingredients used are organic, natural and as clean as possible.
MY KIND OF HOT DOG RECIPE.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Chicken sausages(or whatever you prefer)
- Romain lettuce or you could use green or red cabbage
- 1 big white onion
- 1 big Red onion
- 1/2 cup of flour – you can use any kind
- 2 cups extra virgin olive oil
- 3 tbsp coconut sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup Apple vinegar
Pour the oil into your medium size pot and put it on high heat. Chop your white onion into thin rings and separate them into a big bowl, add your flour and mix it up good. When the oil is warm enough you put the onions in a little at a time. Grab you slotted spoon and take the onions out of the oil when they start to turn light brown. Continue til you are done with all your onions.
Chop up your red onion into half circles, put them in a preheated medium sized pot and fry the onions on medium heat til they collapse. Then add your vinegar, suger and salt. Turn you heat down a little and have it simmer for 10 minutes.
Fry your sausages on your frying pan cook on low-medium heat so the sausages doesen’t crack. Chop up your cashews, rinse your blueberries and lettuce. EAT and ENJOY.
